I am deeply involved in online learning. I transformed a face to face third level science elective in astrobiology to fully online at the University of New South Wales in Sydney (BEES6741 Astrobiology: Life in the Universe), and I am currently writing a new third level UNSW course, The Science of Science Communication.
I am currently primary supervisor for four doctoral students, and secondary supervisor for another doctoral student.
I’m very interested in pushing the edge of the technological envelope. I’m involved in a cross-school, cross faculty Virtual Reality project with iCinema for which we won a $360k UNSW grant. That builds on my experience of piloting the first Virtual Field Trip in astrobiology in collaboration with NASA Learning Technologies in 2007 and the following year working in partnership with ASU and MIT to build the VFTs now on the ASU site (which a few years ago won a US$1m prize for innovation in education).
